Where Have we come from? Where are we going?
On October 12, there was a premiere showing of Journey of the Universe with Chinese subtitles at the Yale Beijing Center. The Journey book was also available in Chinese, and the online classes on Journey, which are translated into Chinese, were also featured. There was a capacity audience of 160 in Beijing and 75,000 people watched this in live streaming across China. We were delighted to continue to share this story with new and old friends in China.

Mary Evelyn organized and moderated the Yale Beijing Center event program that illustrated how the cosmological perspectives of Journey of the Universe are compatible with the Confucian cosmology of the unity of Cosmos, Earth, and humans. After a showing of the film three leading Chinese scholars commented on the film and China’s efforts to promote an ecological civilization through Confucian ecological values.
The aim of this program was to suggest that the issues of environmental sustainability are enhanced when joined to the humanities and environmental ethics. An interdisciplinary synthesis of science, policy, and traditional cultural values deepens China's promotion of an ecological civilization.
